Millet Dehusking machine

Description

The Millet Dehusking Machine is an innovative device designed to streamline the process
of removing the tough outer husk from millet grains. Millet, a vital cereal grain consumed
widely in regions like Nepal, requires dehusking before it can be used for consumption or
further processing. Traditionally, this process has been labor-intensive, time-consuming,
and inefficient, often leading to significant grain loss. The Millet Dehusking Machine
addresses these challenges by offering a modern solution that enhances productivity,
improves grain quality, and reduces manual labor. By developing the Millet Dehusking
Machine, NIC aims to provide a solution that enhances the efficiency and quality of
millet processing. This innovation not only improves the productivity of millet farmers
but also contributes to the overall economic development of the region by enabling the
production of high-quality millet for domestic consumption and export.

Story

The journey of the Millet Dehusking Machine begins with a challenge deeply rooted in
Nepal's agricultural history. Millet, a small but vital grain, has long been a dietary
foundation for rural communities. Traditional dehusking methods were manual, slow, and
required a lot of effort. These tasks mostly fell on women, making their work very hard.
Seeing the need for a better solution, senior mechanical engineer Dajangbu Sherpa came
up with an idea. With support from the National Innovation Center, he designed a
machine to make millet processing easier.Designed to handle the grain with care, this
device promised efficiency, consistency, and minimal wastage, overcoming the
limitations of manual methods. With cleaning, drying, dehusking, and optional polishing
steps integrated seamlessly, the machine not only boosted productivity but also improved
the quality of the processed millet. By meeting local and global standards, it opened up
avenues for export and economic growth, reshaping Nepal’s millet industry. Today, this
innovation stands as a testament to the power of engineering and collaboration, relieving
farmers of burdensome labor, empowering women, and marking the beginning of a new
era of sustainable agricultural practices.

Objective

The millet dehusking machine is designed to transform the way millet is processed,
making it both reliable and efficient. Traditional methods of dehusking millet are often
slow, labor-intensive, and inconsistent in quality. This machine aims to change that by
addressing these common issues head-on. With a focus on even processing, the machine
ensures that every grain of millet is dehusked uniformly, which means you get consistent
quality every time. By automating key steps and reducing the need for manual labor, it
boosts productivity and streamlines the entire process. Safety and reliability are top
priorities for this machine. It comes equipped with automated safety controls and a robust
processing system to ensure smooth and secure operation. The goal is to make the whole
process as safe and efficient as possible, reducing the burden on workers and enhancing
overall productivity.
